3. What is an LLC and Why You Might Not Need One.
Have you ever thought about starting a company and wondered if you need an LLC?
It’s important to understand exactly what an LLC is, and why you need one (or don’t).
LLC stand for Limited Liability Company and is commonly used to protect a business owner’s personal assets if they end up in a lawsuit.
In other words, if someone try’s to sue your business, an LLC will separate your business assets from your personal assets. If the business is found guilty, your personal assets (home, car, etc.) will be protected.
LLC’s also allow you to easily structure partnership agreements if you are partnering or taking on investors. For example, if you are selling 10% of your company for $20K, you can declare 10% of the LLC shares to belong to your investor.
But what if I’m just starting my business and we’ve made no money and have no assets?
In this case it may be more expensive to form and maintain an LLC, rather than operating as a sole proprietor.
Here’s a breakdown of why you may choose a Sole Proprietorship vs an LLC.

I just set up my LLC with Incfile.com this (not sponsored, but I wish it was) and it was super easy. (Literally 5 min of online forms)
